Now, as with every post here - this is all my personal experience and opinions. Remember whatever decision you make for you and your family is best! There are many options out there for introducing solids to your baby, and your choice is the best choice!
In addition to breastfeeding, I knew I wanted to make my own baby food if possible. After doing some reading and research, I discovered this would be much easier than I originally thought.
The 3 main things you need are:
- A blender of sorts (personally I love Immersion Blenders - easy to store, easy to use, easy to clean!)
- Storage Containers
It's a easy as 1, 2, 3! Chop, Steam, Blend and Store!
*If you're not using a steamer, chop your vegetables (Ex: Butternut Squash or Sweet Potato) put is a small sauce pan, pour water in just to cover the vegetables and bring to a boil. As you blend if you need to add liquid for consistency, use the water it was boiled in as this is where the nutrients are released!
We've kept it pretty simple so far with easy vegetables like Peas, Sweet Potato etc. and have learned to ease into some other foods like lentils. The easiest is Avocado - just mash and serve! I'm looking forward to trying new combinations and adding more spices, although I will admit I'm not exactly looking forward to Part II - blending meat.....but jarred meat just seems all sorts of wrong to me.
So if you're starting solids, enjoy the process! Grab your blender, and have your camera ready - it is a beautifully fun, messy stage!
You can find some of my favorite items for both you and Le Bebe during this stage HERE
Any Mamas out there have recommendations for starting meats, and best methods for preparing?
Till next time!
