Avocado Hummus (Spicy)

Yes, you read that right.

It's like two of my favorite snacks got together and had a baby!  But would it live up to the expectation?  (I mean there was some good ripe avocado at stake here!)  Well, the answer is YES!

I was looking for an easy somewhat healthy snack to bring to a get together recently, and after perusing the google machine, most recipes were the same so I took the basics and put a few twists on it.  I like things SPICY and A LOT of FLAVOR!  This recipe is very simple and most items I generally always have in, so it was a win-win!  The end result was a light velvety dip, with good flavor, and a kick of spice at the end! Now I still LOVE my guacamole and hummus respectively - HOWEVER if you find yourself short of some good Avocado this is a fun substitute!

What you need:
2 Avocados
1 can of Chickpeas (save some of the water)
1 Lime (juice)
2-3 cloves of Garlic (depending on size)
1-2 tbsps of Olive Oil
3 tsps Tahini
1 heaping tsp of Cumin
Cayenne Pepper (as you like - I like it spicy!)
Salt (to taste)

Now go grab your immersion blender (my favorite appliance) or  any blender/food processor!
Combine: Avocado, Chickpeas (remember to save some of the water!), Lime juice, Garlic, Olive Oil, Tahini,  Salt and Cumin.

  • Begin to blend.  As you blend, add some of the chickpea water to desired texture.
  • At this point, check and add salt if needed. Now it's time for the Cayenne!
  • Sprinkle Cayenne so there is a coating on the top then mix in and stir - repeat one more time (This is really up to you, and how spicy you like it ;) )
  • Serve with your favorite crunchy snacks! Some great options are Blue Tortilla Chips and Veggies!
