When the world's full of germs. Every sound you hear is a sneeze...
Germs, it's inevitable they are everywhere, but this germaphobe will do anything possible to avoid getting sick! Aside from washing my hands and being a serious user of hand sanitizer, Lemon water is my go to elixir (both hot and cold) to help boost my immune system. Refreshing, a great source Vitamin C (if you're into alkalizing, it is how you should start your day!) this superfood should not go unnoticed. While sitting on the train, surrounded by hacking coughs, I was motivated to find other sources to help prevent
In 2017 Turmeric really has been a buzzy wellness topic. FUN FACT: Turmeric fights inflammation so it is a great healer of sorts. I've had my share of Turmeric Tonics, but decided to take some inspiration from all of the Golden Milks and Lattes filling my Social Media feeds.
As you can imagine there are a plethora of recipes available but all are relatively similar. For Golden Milk, the recipe I used included Almond Milk, Turmeric, Ginger, Cinnamon and a pinch of pepper*. It was decent, and reminded me a little of Chai Tea. Being that I had already had some early symptoms of getting a cold, I would find this comforting on a cold snowy morning or afternoon.
The next morning I tried a Turmeric Tea utilizing the great immunity boosters: Lemon, Turmeric and Ginger. You may even find similar recipes used for cleansing and detoxing. REAL TALK: This was a great way to start the day: nice energy boost while soothing a sore throat. This recipe included aforementioned ingredients, a little maple syrup (you could also use honey) and a pinch of Cayenne*. It's been almost 1 year since having caffeine - at this point I'm not looking to go back, and finding some natural ways to get that zip in the morning (especially with a 4 month old) is very exciting!
Back to why I even ventured to try these new found elixirs....I do think they gave my immune system a boost, my cold never fully developed. Fueling your bod with superfoods, and the taste is good...that is a WIN-WIN!
So drink to your health, and may the germs stay far from you!
*To get the ultimate benefits of using turmeric, it needs to be consumed with a little pepper for absorption. As always, if you have concerns check with your doctor, but the amount of spices used in these beverages are not equivalent of a supplement.
